Nawaz Takes Back Control of PML-N Party After 6 Years

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was chosen as the president of the PML-N party without any opposition on Tuesday. This happened after he was cleared of all corruption charges last year.

Earlier today, the PML-N shared a video, saying: “The Lion is returning to take his rightful place.”Nawaz Takes Back Control of PML-N Party After 6 Years

Nawaz Sharif lost his position as party president six years ago because of a Supreme Court decision related to the Panama Papers case.

In his speech at the party meeting, Nawaz told the excited crowd that they should be happy not just because he is president again, but because the decision to disqualify him has been overturned.

Nawaz asked those who had declared him disqualified to come forward and explain why they did it. He reminded them that he was disqualified because he didn’t take a salary from his son.

Nawaz thanked his party members and his brother Shehbaz Sharif for staying loyal to the party during tough times. He said many tried to create problems between him and his brother, but Shehbaz remained faithful.

Nawaz claimed that years ago, Shehbaz was offered the prime minister’s position if he sidelined Nawaz, but Shehbaz refused.

Nawaz also praised Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz for their courage in facing many challenges, including prison.

He complimented his brother’s performance as prime minister, saying that the economy is already improving. He encouraged his brother to keep working hard, promising that after some difficult years, prosperity would follow.

Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Nawaz on becoming the party president again. He said the injustice done to Nawaz in 2017 has been corrected, and Nawaz has been restored to his rightful position.

Shehbaz accused Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, of rigging the 2018 elections, which caused Nawaz to lose.

Shehbaz criticized Imran Khan for allegedly attacking the army.

PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah explained the party’s election process. He said Shehbaz resigned as PML-N president on May 11 because of a conspiracy against Nawaz in 2018. His resignation was accepted on May 18, and he was asked to stay on until the election.

Sanaullah said the PML-N’s election commission was formed with himself, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Ishrat Ashraf, Jamal Shah Kakar, and Khel Das as members.

PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal congratulated everyone on the successful election. He demanded that those who used Nawaz to harm Pakistan should be brought to court. He said these people should answer for the damage they caused to the country.

The party’s election took place during the general council meeting in Lahore. Eleven members received nomination papers for the top position.

The PML-N had planned the meeting for May 11 but postponed it to celebrate 26 years of Pakistan becoming a nuclear power.

In a press conference, Sanaullah hinted that Nawaz would win without competition. When asked if anyone else wanted to run for president, he said they should come forward. He said the PML-N used to serve the powerful, but Nawaz made it a party for the people.
